What is a PHEV?
Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) function similarly to regular hybrids, employing an electric motor to reduce the gas engine's workload. PHEVs can also charge as you drive via the engine's operation or regenerative braking. Since PHEV batteries are considerably larger than regular hybrids, they require external charging to achieve optimal performance and efficiency. However, they can still function normally on gas alone. A primary advantage of PHEVs over standard hybrids is the ability to drive using only electricity. Additionally, some PHEVs may qualify for a federal tax credit.
Jeep® 4xe
Jeep® 4xe models combine a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine and an electric motor to produce a four-wheel-driving 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. A 17-kWh battery enables electric-only capability and can charge in around three hours using Level 2 (240V) equipment. However, you don't necessarily need a special installation, as Jeep 4xe models can replenish their battery overnight (~10 – 12 hours) using a standard three-pin household-style outlet (120V).
- The Jeep Wrangler 4xe boasts uncompromised trail-roaming capability with near-instant torque delivery and an EPA-estimated 49 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent). It's also capable of an estimated ~21 miles in electric-only mode.1 Available trims include Sport 4xe, Willys 4xe, Sahara 4xe, Rubicon 4xe, High Altitude 4xe, and Rubicon X 4xe.
- The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is ideal for Hillsborough drivers who like the Jeep brand's adventurous character and want more refinement and practicality. It uses the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe to achieve an EPA-estimated 56 MPGe and 25 miles of electric-only range.1 Trim levels include Limited 4xe, Trailhawk® 4xe, Overland 4xe, Summit 4xe, and Summit Reserve 4xe.
Chrysler Pacifica
